Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- Hold a current QLD Security Licence GUARD Employee Licence (or meet eligibility requirements)
- Meet state or territory firearms licensing and background check requirements
- Provide valid photo identification
- Possess sufficient English language, literacy, and numeracy skills
- Be physically able to participate in firearms handling and range activities
Units of Competency
This course delivers the following nationally recognised unit:
- CPPSEC3114 – Control Security Risk Situations Using Firearms
It is commonly delivered alongside related firearm units, including:
- CPPSEC3115 – Carry, operate and maintain revolvers
- CPPSEC3116 – Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols
- CPPSEC3117 – Carry, operate and maintain shotguns
- CPPSEC3131 – Conduct security officer handover procedures
These units together support licensing and operational competency for armed security roles across Australia.

Format: The online component is required to be completed by students BEFORE attending the face-to-face practical component.Locations:
Delivered at approved Defensive Solutions Australia and Asset College training facilities throughout Queensland.

Licensing Requirements
Completion of CPPSEC3114 meets the training requirements for armed security licensing under the QLD Police Weapons Licensing Division and equivalent legislation across Australia.
Participants receive a Statement of Attainment, which can be submitted to QLD Weapons Licensing state authority when applying for annual renewal for Security Licence GUARD Employee Licence. This also forms the annual requirement for QLD Security Providers to continue to perform Cash in Transit operations.
